US Senator Al Franken, D-MN, was a professional comic at the time of his male-chauvinist public pranks on his then female sidekick Leenn Tweeden, who, during the week of 11-13-2017, reported in the news media that she was a me-too, as a young woman, victim of occupational sexual harassment, vicitimized twice, first by a French-kiss of her on stage during a comedy performance rehearsal and later in a photograph of her having her flal-jacket fully clothed breasts faux hand-cupped, with his fingers comically stretched apart, while she slept, in an airplane seat, in comedic pranks by comedian Al Franken. He is notorious for having habitually engaged in gags and pranks on and off stage as a comedian. During the rehearsal of a kiss for their stage performance, he amped it up into a stunt of surprising her by jamming his tongue into her mouth, likely intending to provoke a spontaneous, wild reaction of laughable consternation out of her, for comic effect, to/for the hilarity of the onlookers (with a maybe agreed repeat of the latter in the forthcoming stage performance, modifying the simple kiss to the wild one in the stage performance, which he could or might have learned, from her reaction and the flat one of the onlookers, shown in the full-view photo, at the rehearsal, was an unworkable, bad idea). The photo of him looking into the camera while he put his hands, with his fingers comically stretched apart, over her fully flak-jacket clothed breasts while she appeared to be pretending to be sleeping, but by her words, and his non-disagreement of her, that she really was sleeping, was also a gag, which he posed for to have photographed, meaning his transgressions were superficial and done in theatrical jest and were not attempts to sexually harass or exploit her for his personal sexually erotic intimacy or carnal stimulation. The photo ended up in her possession, meaning he apparently did not try to hide this photo prank from her. All of this occurred in 2006 in the pairs' USO entertainment tour for US troops and in the context of their comedy relationship, exaggerated on and spilling over to off stage on the part of then professional comic Al Franken, taking every situational opportunity to jest and joke. He should not consider resigning or otherwise departing his office as a US senator because of this silly shenanigans of more than a decade ago, even if others were the objects of his then male-chauvinist gender, or sexist, humor, toward females, which was rampant and essentially socially common then. But he should apologize, which he has done, and declare that what did was wrong then, nevertheless, and is both wrong and exposed by women and girls of our times as intolerably offensive and forbidden. Times have changed and the behavior of males must change toward that of sexual and affectionate boundaries and physical and verbal respect in their encounters and relationships with females henceforth.
Let the voters of the state of Minnesota decide on the acceptability and desirability of his service for them as their state's US senator, and no other/s, on this matter.
